Shinny is an informal game of hockey played on ice. There is usually minimal equipment needed to play and no goaltender.
To play, you will need:
-
A CSA approved hockey helmet, mandatory for all participants
-
If you’re under 19 years old, a full face guard is recommended
-
Hockey gloves and neck guard is highly recommended for all participants
-
Your own skates, sticks and pucks
-
All participants must pay prior to accessing the ice surface. Proceed to facility front desk to make payment. See fees below.
Shinny Rules
-
No goalies in shinny
-
No body contact
-
Puck is not to be raised off the ice
-
No slap shots
-
Only one puck is allowed on the ice during a game
-
No on-ice monitoring/referring is provided
-
Equal ice time ensures everyone gets the most out of the program. We ask players to self-monitor shifts to a maximum of 3-4 minutes in length.
-
Display good sportsmanship, respect all players and facility property.
Sledge Skating
The City of Sault Ste. Marie has sledges available for all community members to use.
Sledge skating is a great opportunity for people with disabilities to be physically active throughout the winter.
A lift is available at JR2 for those that require lifting from a mobility device to the sledge. Please bring someone along to help with your transfer.
